Our Strawberry Social was a big success! It was a beautiful day on Sunday, with a bright blue sky, birdsong and a cool breeze. We served over 100 strawberry shortcakes, and the day was enjoyed by both staff and patrons alike. A few familiar faces were seen, including mayor John Levi and councillors Shaun McLaughlin, Alex Gillis and John Edwards in attendance.
We would like to thank the Equator Coffee Roaster’s of Almonte, whose generous donation of select coffee helped make the event the success it was. We would also like to thank everyone who came out to support the museum.
If you didn’t have time to come out to the Social, why not come by the museum some other time? We have a variety of exhibits in our little museum! The lower level of our museum spans different sectors of life in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, including displays on local general stores, post offices, and rural schooling just to name a few.
We also have an original pioneer log cabin, right in the museum’s backyard! Built by the original settlers of Almonte, our log cabin is a fine example of Canadian life in the 1850’s. See how our ancestors lived and learn about the tools they would have used in their everyday lives.
And don’t forget about our newest exhibit, Toys and Games of Mississippi Mills! Here for the summer, this exhibit features antique and vintage toys which tell stories of childhoods past.
The museum is open to everyone, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a suggested admission fee of $3.00 per person. Money collected from admissions will go towards updating exhibits, providing greater accessibility and improving the overall visitor experience.
A quick reminder: the North Lanark Historical Society Annual General Meeting is at 7:00pm, July 9, and will be held at the museum. Our guest speaker this year will be our very own Stuart Douglas, who will talk about the museum’s Video History Project.
