Today’s “Paper Puppet Animation Workshop” with Amanda Homeniuk, was the kick-off for 8 puppet workshops that JB Arts in partnership with Puppets Up will be presenting this year.
Parents and kids attending today’s workshop at JB Arts in Almonte, had fun creating a jointed paper puppet character then making it come to life through the magic of animation! At the end of the day, each team had a 10-second animated film they can put up on their Facebook page or on YouTube.
Amanda Homeniuk, a professional stop-motion animator living in Carleton Place, taught everyone a technique for producing animation using flat 2-D characters and backgrounds cut from thick paper.
The next puppet workshop, “A Puppet Show in a Day” with the Rag and Bone Puppet Theatre from Ottawa, will be for kids on April 26th . In this workshop, young participants will make sturdy wooden rod puppets, work in small groups to make up stories for their puppet characters, rehearse, and then present their show at the end of the day to parents and friends in the JB Arts studio. Pizza will be served free of charge for lunch and popcorn will be served at the show. All materials supplied
