The puppets are pitching in to help with the fundraising efforts of the ever popular Puppets Up! International Puppet Festival.
For the first time in its 12 years history, Puppets Up! has experienced a shortfall and festival organizers are working hard to cover this so that the 2017 festival isn’t in jeopardy.
Puppets Up! is held annually over 3 days during the month of August in the downtown core of Almonte in Mississippi Mills. The festival draws thousands of people with its exciting mix of professional puppet shows in tent theatres, street performers, parades, vendors, and puppet workshops. For 12 years, Puppets Up! has provided world-class family entertainment in a small town setting.
As part of its current fundraising efforts, Puppets Up! will be presenting a very special original puppet production based on Dickens, “A Christmas Carol”, in the Almonte Old Town Hall on December 16th and 17th. All the characters from this beloved classic will be cast from the many look-alike caricature puppets that puppet artist, Noreen Young, has made of local residents of Mississippi Mills. Who will play Scrooge? Will Baker Bob be Bob Cratchit? What about the Ghost of Christmas Past? Mr Fezziwig? A group of 8 puppeteers are standing by to animate these well-known Dickens characters played by recognizable local people/puppets. Don’t miss this unique and memorable puppet show!
Tickets go on sale October 15th at Mill Street Books and Baker Bob’s in Almonte and can also be purchased on line at www.puppetsup.ca at that time.
You can also donate to Puppets Up! and help them with their shortfall by mailing to Box 1297, Almonte, Ontario K0A 1A0, or by giving online at puppetsup.ca. Puppets Up! is a registered charity and tax receipts will be issued for donations over $25.
