August, 20, 2014 – Mississippi Mills – Shaun MacLaughlin officially launched his bid for Mayor of Mississippi Mills today, unveiling a four-point community campaign platform and his election website. Addressing supporters during a campaign kick-off celebration at Cedar Hill School House, McLaughlin spoke of his desire to provide more opportunity for residents across Mississippi Mills to become more meaningfully involved in the planning and development of their Town.
“I’m launching my campaign at the historic Cedar Hill School House, in my home ward of Pakenham, because I love my neighbourhood and respect the people and heritage of this community,” said McLaughlin. “What is so special about Mississippi Mills is that we all can enjoy our own attractive neighbourhoods. With the growth we are experiencing, as Mayor I intend to listen to and engage with residents and businesses to understand how best to build upon our shared values.”

Shaun McLaughlin explained his campaign four-point platform:
- Commit to smart development and foster economic growth to accentuate our shared values and heritage
- Promote greater two-way communications through the Mayor’s Office to encourage more meaningful engagement with residents, and to encourage better consensus building within Council
- Increase fiscal efficiencies in the next four years by conducting a review of our municipal programs and services and by holding annual public meetings on the budget process; bringing a new level of public participation to how our Town spends taxpayers’ dollars
- Showcase our Town’s arts, culture and heritage by better promoting our many attractions and fully supporting community cultural goals
At his campaign kick-off, McLaughlin also unveiled his new election website: ShaunForMayor.ca. The site contains details of election commitments, background information, latest news of the campaign as well as contact information on how to get involved in the campaign. McLaughin is the first Mayoral candidate in Mississippi Mills to employ Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in an effort to reach out to and dialogue with voters and residents of all ages.
