Theft from Vehicles – "Lock It or Lose It" Results – OPP Carleton Detachment Press Release

The Carleton Place Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid possession of stolen property charges in relation to thefts from vehicles.

On May 22, 2011 at approximately 12:45 am police received a report of a suspicious person looking into vehicles parked in residential driveways on Dufferin Street. Police patrolled the area and located three male youths on McKenzie Street. Upon further investigation, police determined the youth to be in possession of stolen property and they were arrested. Police located coins, Ipod charger, GPS, FM transmitter, wire cutters and a flashlight from the three accused.

As a result, two 16 year old male young persons of Carleton Place are charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000. A 17 year old male young person of Carleton Place is charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 and Breech of Probation Order All were released on a Promise to Appear for Youth Court in Smiths Falls on June 29, 2011.

In support of Police Week and our “LOCK IT OR LOSE IT” crime prevention program, the Lanark County OPP Auxiliary members checked 240 vehicles in Carleton Place and Almonte last week. They found 17 vehicles unlocked, 29 vehicles with valuables in plain view and 9 with windows open.

An unlocked door or open window makes your vehicle an easy target for theft. After parking, drivers should always roll up the vehicles windows, lock the doors, take the keys with them and never leave valuables in plain view.

Police would like to remind residents to “LOCK IT OR LOSE IT” and to report any suspicious activity to police.
