Gerald Tennant — obituary

Tennant, Gerald

February 6, 1944 to November 18, 2025

John Joseph Gerald Tennant, passed away peacefully at the Lanark Lodge on November 18, 2025 in his 82nd year.  He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (McDougall) Tennant and pre-deceased by his sister, Beverly Patterson.  Survived by his brother-in-law, Gordon Patterson, nieces and nephew, Rhonda (Kevin) Alger, Cheryl (Gary Rabb), Melanie (Tom) Duncan and Graham (Erica) Patterson.  Great Uncle to Libby and Mallory Alger, Mitchell and Claire Rabb, John, Nathan, Alexandra and Eric Duncan and Alyssa, Gracyn and Nicholas Patterson.  Gerald will be fondly remembered by his extended family, neighbours and local community.

Gerald was born on February 6, 1944 and lived on the family farm in the Rosetta area until 2020 when a fall required him to live in more supported care.  He was a long-time member and elder of the Guthrie United Church and supported the associated churches of the charge by taking care of many administrative and maintenance duties.  As well, he tended to the Tennant Cemetery with thoughtfulness and care.  He dedicated significant time to community outreach through his church, phone calls to relatives and friends, visits to residents in various local long-term care homes and ensured that local history was documented through contributions to the Middleville Museum, the Almonte Gazette, Lanark Era, his own notes and diaries, and collection of newspaper clippings.  He could recall dates and names with ease and enjoyed sharing family history with others.  In 2009, Gerald was nominated by his peers and awarded the Lanark County Award of Excellence for volunteerism and community service.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of the Lanark Lodge for their kindness and care for Gerald during his time there.

A visitation will be held at the Gamble Funeral Home, 127 Church Street, Almonte on Saturday, November 29, 2025, 9:30 am to 11:30 am. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 11:30 am and a lunch reception 12-1.  Private interment at the Tennant Cemetery.

In memory of Gerald, donations may be made to the Guthrie United Church, the Middleville and District Museum or a charity of your choice.
