About us
The Mississippi Mills Film Society has been screening TIFF films in the area since 2023. Our venue is upstairs at the Almonte Legion, 100 Bridge Street (there’s an elevator). It’s great — there’s a good-size screen and the sound system is terrific.
Our committee works diligently to choose a nice variety of films from TIFF’s “hot list”; an alternative to Hollywood. A lot of things have to line up — TIFF has to release the films, the format has to align with our equipment, the distributor has to distribute in this part of the world, and a few other details. Some of our best-received films have been Driving Madeleine, The Penguin Lessons and our last film, Being Cyrano, which was met with rave reviews — 83% of attendees gave it five stars. We know this because of our unique “penny for your thoughts” rating system. We literally have folks drop a Canadian penny into a box that corresponds with one to five stars on their way out.
All profits are donated to the Mississippi Mills Public Library.

For the first time, we’ve decided to offer a subscription for our upcoming Winter/Spring 2026 series (February 22, March 22 and April 19) — three movies for $42 (fees included). Individual tickets are $15.
All of the movies are shown on Sunday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. The committee is now screening possible choices for the upcoming series, so we don’t have the titles yet, but we’ll be releasing the details on social and local media as soon as we’ve nailed them down.
