Rhythm & Song winter session begins soon

Rhythm & Song! Community Choir- Almonte

Winter session begins the afternoon of Tuesday, January 13 from 1-2:30pm

What a fall it was! Seventy-five singers over two weekly sessions gathered to learn a song of inclusion from Ghana; a reindeer calling song from Finland; Carol of the Bells – a seasonal favourite; Bright Morning Stars, a traditional Appalachian song; This Canoe by Canadian songwriter James Gordon, about a love of canoeing; an African American spiritual about finding peace after a life of struggle, and more. We sang in two, three and four-part harmony. And though we aren’t officially a ‘performing’ choir, we did make an exception to take the stage for the Chautauqua Variety Show, the Puppets Up! Fundraiser which was lots of fun.

For our last choir session of the season, we welcomed family and friends for a song-sharing and refreshments. Together, the evening and afternoon groups, along with our generous guests, donated $1000 and 57 lbs. of food to the Lanark County Food Bank.

Maybe you’re looking for something new to try in 2026, or you want to do something you’ve always been scared to do, or you want to find the voice you never thought you had (we all have one believe it or not – even if some wicked person told you you don’t), or you want to meet some new friends, or you simply could use more joy  and laughter in your life. Rhythm & Song! might be the answer. If traditional choirs don’t appeal, why not give this non-traditional choir a try?

New singers are welcome to come and try a session before making a commitment. There are no auditions and no need to read sheet music, as songs and harmony parts are taught through call and response. Lyrics are provided, as are tracks for home practice if you choose. Sessions are uplifting, energizing and playful. You will sing a lot. Can’t carry a tune on your own? It’s amazing what singing with the support of other voices can do.
