Open house: Visit the restored Holy Name of Mary sanctuary

Many things in life require maintenance. Churches are no different. Holy Name of Mary Church on Bridge Street, right beside the arena, now boasts of a restored sanctuary (‘holy place’) after almost three decades since our last restoration. As the Pastor of this wonderful Parish, I want to take this opportunity to walk you through this process and invite you to come take a look at an open house on March 21, 2026, from 2-3 p.m.

The Church, rebuilt in the 1860s, is approaching its second centennial. So, it is no surprise that time has taken its toll. Thus, our Property Committee, charged with good stewardship, plans restorations from time to time.

Consider that as the Church building settles and heaves, cracks form in the plaster and paint. As candles are snuffed and incense rises, the walls and ceiling become veiled with grime. Dust settles. Paint bubbles. The wintry season takes its toll as the exterior mortar deteriorates, allowing cold drafts to wreak serious havoc on interior fit and finish. Not to mention the occasional leak in the roof or other mishap!

So, we contracted a local company known for their expertise with paint and plaster. Less than one month later, the scaffolding was down, the plaster filled in, and the final coats of paint dried.

On a deeper note– beauty speaks to us. In our Catholic tradition, beauty, a ‘transcendental’ reality, spans beyond cultures and fashions. It is a human experience that points us to the loving care that our Creator has for us. Come and see for yourself the deep blue ceiling punctuated with golden stars, which is a portrayal of the homeland for which we long – namely, Heaven. It is stunning and stirring – by design.

I would like to invite you to an open house to come and see. Whether you’ve never been to our Church before or have perhaps fallen away from regular attendance, please join me on March 21, 2026 from 2-3 pm as I share with you our beautifully restored Church.
