Liam Cini — obituary

Liam Mungo Wood Cini passed away peacefully with his family by his side at CHEO on July 1, 2026, at the age of 17.

Beloved and cherished son of Allison and Alexxi, and big brother to Griffin, Liam filled every room with his energy, kindness, and unmistakable smile. While his life was tragically cut short following a devastating motor vehicle accident, the six days prior to his passing were a testament to just how deeply he was loved. Surrounded every moment by family and an outpouring of support from his many friends, colleagues, and the community, Liam was never alone.

Across the city, countless people paused for moments of silence, gathered in prayer, and held Liam and our family in their hearts. Liam’s final days were filled with an incredible outpouring of love from family and friends. He was held close by those who loved him most, including family members who stood by his side, travelled to say goodbye, and helped surround him with love and comfort until the end. A special mention goes to his Cousin Olivia, his Auntie Kirsty who was there every step of the way, and his Aunt Maltaise who travelled from Europe to be there for his last moments. Other family members, his closest friends and a special teacher also had the opportunity to call and share their love, memories, and the impact he had on their lives. Those precious days gave everyone who loved him the opportunity to tell him how much he meant to them and to surround him with the same unconditional love that he gave so freely throughout his life.

Liam had a passion for dirt bikes and cars, and working on anything with an engine. His dream was to work on cars, and he was fortunate to be doing exactly that in a job he truly loved for a few days prior to his passing. He was excited about the future and was living his best life, surrounded by an incredible group of friends and pursuing the things he loved most.

Known for his enormous heart, Liam was the kind of person who was always there for others. He was fiercely loyal, compassionate, and never hesitated to offer a listening ear, a helping hand, or simply his company to a friend in need. He formed countless friendships and leaves behind many lifelong friends and extended family who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

Although Liam’s time with us was far too short, the impact he made in just 17 years is immeasurable. He taught those around him the value of kindness, positivity, loyalty, laughter, and living life to the fullest. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and in the memories that will be treasured forever.

Our family extends our deepest gratitude to the extraordinary doctors, nurses, and staff at CHEO for the exceptional care, compassion, and dignity they provided Liam and our family during the most difficult days of our lives. Their kindness allowed us to spend precious time with Liam and create memories that we will hold close forever.

As we said our final goodbye on Canada Day, we were gifted with a beautiful rainbow stretching across the sky, followed later that evening by the glow of fireworks. In those moments, we found comfort in believing that even as our hearts were breaking, the world seemed to pause to honour a remarkable young man whose light will never fade. We also find comfort in knowing that, each Canada Day, as the sky fills with fireworks, we will be reminded of Liam and the joy, light, and love he brought into the lives of so many.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Liam’s memory to CHEO would be sincerely appreciated.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever 17.
