Catherine Blake grew up in Japan and Canada, and has a very international outlook. She trained in Canada as an art teacher, and has taught art and other subjects in schools, camps, and children’s and adult classes in the Ottawa to Arnprior area and also in Vancouver, Toronto, and London, England, for many years. In England she studied pottery, and had her own pottery studio, Bywater Pottery with her husband, first in Toronto and later in Almonte, from 1978 to 1987.
More recently, Catherine spent a year and a half teaching teachers in Zanzibar where she picked up her drawing and painting more seriously. Her personal preference in art is divided among drawing in ink, watercolours with ink, and painting in acrylics and mixed media; she is preparing for a show in Almonte in December 2013, “From Almonte to Zanzibar and Back”.
