Welcome to our wonderful community and all that it has to offer. We are the MM Welcome Team, a group of volunteers who are a friendly face to help you get settled and introduced to the community. These days many people who have recently moved to this area rely heavily on the Friends in Mississippi Mills facebook page (www.facebook.com>groups>mississippimillsfriends), and it is true you can get lots of good recommendations and information there as you settle in. You can also get valuable information on the municipal website (www.mississippimills.ca). But there is more to be had, as a lot that goes on in the community happens through word of mouth and is not regularly featured on social media.
As we get to know people who have recently moved into our community, we often hear questions such as: How do I find a book club? Is there a men’s recreational hockey team in town? Is it true there is a line dancing class here? How do I get to know about quilting groups? What is there for teens to do in the area? Where can I walk my dog off leash? Where can I volunteer? Are there any good hiking trails in the area? What transportation opens are available for people without a car? And so on.
We can help answer these questions, either ourselves or by putting you in touch with the person who can has the answer. It really helps to have connections in this community. When I first moved here, I had one person, a friend of a friend, who helped me find all that I was looking for in the community. Now I have lots of connections, but that one person was invaluable for the first year.
