New Westside Pickleball Club responds to surging demand with year-round play and upcoming tournament
As pickleball continues its explosive growth across Ottawa and Eastern Ontario, a new facility in Almonte is stepping in to meet demand — becoming the first purpose-built, stand-alone pickleball facility serving the Almonte-Kanata corridor.
Westside Pickleball Courts, located at 340 Frank Davis Street, is designed as a year-round indoor facility focused entirely on pickleball, offering structured programming, leagues, and social play for all skill levels.
The opening comes at a time when pickleball has rapidly evolved from a niche sport into one of the fastest-growing recreational activities in Canada. In Ottawa alone, there are now hundreds of courts across dozens of locations, reflecting a surge in participation across all age groups.
“Pickleball is more than just a game – it’s a community,” said founder Sara West. “What starts as a fun way to stay active quickly becomes something people are passionate about. That’s what we wanted to build here — a place where people can play, connect, and feel part of something.”
While much of Ottawa’s early pickleball growth was concentrated in the east end — particularly in Orléans, where some of the region’s first dedicated courts emerged — players in Kanata, Stittsville, Carleton Place and Lanark County have faced limited indoor options, especially during winter months.
Westside aims to fill that gap with a purpose-built environment that includes:
- Four dedicated indoor courts
- Skill-based programming and leagues
- Easy online booking
- A court-side lounge and social space
The facility is built around the idea that pickleball is both a sport and a social experience, offering opportunities for beginners, competitive players, and recreational participants alike.
Pickleball’s appeal lies in its accessibility — combining elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong into a low-impact, easy-to-learn game that attracts players of all ages and fitness levels.
With demand for indoor courts rising — particularly in colder climates like Eastern Ontario — facilities like Westside are becoming essential to sustaining year-round play.
The opening of Westside Pickleball Courts marks a significant milestone for the west end of the Ottawa region, positioning Almonte as a new hub for one of Canada’s fastest-growing sports.
To mark its opening, Westside will also host an upcoming tournament, bringing together players from across Ottawa and Eastern Ontario. The event is expected to draw participants from Kanata, Stittsville, Carleton Place and beyond, highlighting the growing demand for competitive and recreational play in the region.
Details on tournament dates and registration will be announced shortly.
