The Hike for Hospice organizers have been overwhelmed with generous donations to the prize baskets for participants at the Hike for Hospice May 1. Everything from an oil change, dog grooming, gourmet food items, golf bag, action figure toys, maple syrup, garden supplies and more will be up for grabs at the event. There are prizes for the highest fund raisers, the man with the smallest dog, the lady with the best hat, kids in costumes, teams with themes, scavenger hunters, and surprise categories.
The Hike is on target for a record breaking fund raiser, with over $5000.00 raised to date. According to Chair Barb Carroll, the online site has been particularly successful in stimulating donations, and she is confident the array of prizes will encourage others to come out, enjoy the event and donate to the cause. “What we raise stays” meaning that all funds raised at this Hike are directed toward the Hub Hospice to support palliative care locally.
Registration for the Hike begins at 11:30, Sunday May 1 at the gatehouse at the Mill of Kintail. Entertainment by the Ukulele Ladies, superheroes, Ottawa therapy dogs, and refreshments will make this a great way to kick off spring. The hike takes place at 1 p.m. on a short trail through the woods. Prizes will be awarded after the hike. It’s not too late to put together a team, or simply come along with family and friends to enjoy the Hike for Hospice.
