It’s that time of year again. Dig deep into the back of your closet and pull out that ugly bedazzled Christmas sweater with the goofy reindeer on the front and get ready for some Christmas parties. Whether it’s a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings, a potluck with friends or maybe some appetizers during the tree decorating party there’s a good selection of wines out there to satisfy even the pickiest of palates. It’s a great time of year to reconnect with friends and family. Invite a neighbour over for a glass of wine and share a few laughs this Christmas. May your holidays be happy and full of cheer. Here’s my holiday wine picks.
2014 Clayhouse Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles California
Paso Robles has become a powerhouse for producing quality Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon wines. This Cabernet Sauvignon has a dark ruby red colour with aromas of raspberry and dark fruit. A full bodied wine that is smooth with refined tannins and a long blackberry finish with some chocolate as well. Pairs well with roast beef.
(LCBO Vintages 56789 – $17. Available at Carleton Place and Stittsville)
2014 Cupcake Chardonnay, Monterey California
A golden yellow Chardonnay from Monterey county in the Central Coast of California. It’s barrel fermented with some malolactic fermentation to soften the wine and it give it that buttery texture. Lots of fruit like peach and apricot with some vanilla notes as well. Great wine to serve with appetizers and cheese.
(LCBO Vintages 230821 – $13.10. Available at Almonte and Carleton Place)
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
