
Volunteer Treasurer – Board of Directors
Home Hospice North Lanark is a community-based, not-for-profit hospice dedicated to
providing compassionate care, comfort, and support to individuals and families facing life-
limiting illness. We are currently seeking a Volunteer Treasurer to join our Board of Directors.
About the Role
This position works collaboratively with the Board Chair, Executive Director and Finance staff
to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensure proper financial procedures and controls are in place to prevent fraud and errors
- Ensure the separation of duties is maintained
- Act as a signing officer
The Treasurer is a key governance role responsible for providing financial oversight and
supporting the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities. This position works
collaboratively with the Board Chair, Executive Director, and staff/bookkeeping support to
ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide oversight of the organization’s financial position and controls
- Review and present financial reports to the Board
- Support the development and monitoring of the annual budget
- Chair of the Finance Committee
- Liaise with external accountants and support the annual audit or financial review
- Assist the Board in understanding financial information and risks
- Ensure compliance with applicable financial and regulatory requirements
Skills & Experience
- Background in accounting, finance, or senior financial management
- Experience with not-for-profit or charitable organizations is an asset
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly and in plain language
- Strong judgment, integrity, and collaborative approach
- Commitment to the mission, vision and beliefs of Home Hospice North Lanark
Time Commitment
- Monthly Board meetings except in June, July and December
- Participation in Finance Committee meetings
- Additional time during budget preparation and year-end
- Initial term of 3 years, renewable
Eligibility
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Eligible to serve as a director under Ontario legislation
- Police record check required
