Jazz in January!

Millstone1

Last Saturday evening some 100 people were treated to the world class jazz stylings of Herbie’s Hill in the transformed Bean Car showroom.  Our host was Keith Bean of Bean Buick GMC, the man behind the idea to make this concert a fundraiser for our local hospitals.

But this was unlike any prior JazzNhouse concert! For, at the behest of our thoughtful host, three wonderful young adults (Kyle, Ali and Rob) operated a complimentary valet parking service from the drive-in service bays, ensuring a warm transition for guests! At the door a glass of sparkling wine sealed the welcome. All in all, this decidedly charming community get-together raised over $3,500.00 to be shared between the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital and the Almonte General Hospital & Fairview Manor.

As is tradition, JazzNhouse guests brought a large and delicious variety of snacks and gourmet treats for sharing during the intermission. Punctuating the notion of community collaboration, chairs were provided by the Music Department of Notre Dame CHS and CR Gamble. Sponsors –  that included Bean Buick GMC as the main sponsor, along with CR Gamble, Rental Village and JazzN.ca – worked together to ensure a magical evening, covering the cost of the band, additional furniture requirements, welcome refreshments and the many details of such events. Both hospital Foundations pumped up the publicity within their respective communities and helped make the event a sell-out. A big help was the BeanCars.ca electronic sign that read “Welcome JazzN.ca!  Live jazz at Bean’s! Live jazz with Herbie’s Hill. All funds raised for CPDMH and AGH-FVM”.

Four guests left with wonderful door prizes, including a handy BeanCar.ca spring jacket courtesy of Keith Bean, a gift card to Almonte’s Mill Street Crepe Company from Gord Pike and two extraordinary gift packages from Saje Wisdom Salon Boutique in Appleton from Louise Beaulieu.

The January 9, 2016 JazzNhouse concert was the 29th since JazzN.ca started the series, now in its fourth season.  We are always thrilled to see our community come together to enjoy live music and to support local initiatives.  We wish everyone all the very best for 2016, and hope that you continue to support our community based businesses, our hospitals and, of course, great live music!

Many thanks,

Arnie Francis & Ingrid Kadoke
