‘Superior’ sign on Mill Street restored

by Brent Eades

Lea-Anne Solomonian from the Town’s Beautification Committee wrote to tell me that the owners of the Superior Restaurant on Mill Street have recently had its iconic sign restored to its original decades-old condition. They have done a great job. It’s nice to see another Almonte business honouring and preserving a heritage element of our historic downtown.

I spent some time today in the Textile Museum’s online archive of the old Almonte Gazette, trying to determine how long that sign has been there. I can see that a similar logo was used by the Superior as far back as the 1940s, but I can’t find any photos of the sign going back beyond the 1960s.
