Repair of twenty-three windows and window sills will soon be under way at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum. The windows are located in the warehouse of the former Rosamond Mill, which now houses the Museum’s galleries. Damage from weathering and age, combined with the need to make the windows energy efficient, while maintaining their heritage characteristics, posed a daunting challenge.
To finance the project, the museum launched its Adopt-a-Window campaign in February of this year. Donors could adopt an entire window for $300 or half a window for $150. Donors’ names and an indication of which window they have “adopted” for restoration will appear on a plaque in the museum.
The campaign has been a resounding success, and the Museum wants to express its heartfelt appreciation to the community, which met the campaign’s goal of $6900 by donating $6225! The Museum also received $2000 from the Community Foundation of Canada, and the Benjamin Moore Community Restoration Program donated $750 worth of paint.
The funds raised will allow the repair and upgrading of all the windows at this important National Historic Site, while preserving the building’s historic architectural integrity.
A big thank you to all the donors. Your window awaits!
