Thoburn Mill to receive heritage designation

Thoburn Mill circa 1920

The Town of Mississippi Mills intends to designate the Thoburn Mill at 83 Little Bridge Street in Almonte as property of architectural and historical value or interest under the Ontario Heritage Act. The Thoburn Mill was originally built in 1862. It was rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 1875, 1909 and 1918. Modern renovations began in 2000 and were completed in 2009. The town states that the Thoburn Mill has a rich mix of architectural features and styles that reveal its varied past. The building is essentially the 1919 industrial building, modified in 2000 and 2009 to a contemporary style. Thoburn Mill presently has eleven residential units and eight businesses and has multiple owners.
