Visitors to the District 2 Flower Show hosted by Almonte, Pakenham and Carleton Place Horticultural Societies were treated to a stunning sight of colourful rows of annuals, perennials and floral designs at the Civitan Hall in Almonte on August 12th.
Forty three exhibitors from Horticultural Societies in the Ottawa Valley, from Manotick to Deep River participated in the show. The Theme of Canada 150 was interpreted with creativity and skill in all 10 classes of floral design, with titles such as “Land of Waterways”, “Railroad Ties” and “Gold Nuggets”. Designers preregistered for a space in these 10 classes along with special exhibits of “Pollinator Heaven” and “Farmer`s Market” and the designs were thought provoking as well as being visually appealing.
Visitors also enjoyed browsing at the vendor`s market, snapping up jams, perennials, hypertufa containers, unusual seeds and photo cards of local gardens and landmarks and, after all the admiring of horticultural specimens and a buying spree, took advantage of the tea room, relaxing with a cup of tea and goodies. Ah, a perfect way to spend an afternoon with friends.
