National television network profiles Just Good Compost

The word is getting out about Almonte’s own Just Good Compost. This week the team was joined by a television crew from AMI-tv, a national network focused on people with disabilities. The producers were interested in learning more about the program, particularly the ‘bucket brigade’, the 22 person (and growing) team of local people with developmental disabilities who clean and disinfect customer’s buckets each week. There is an increased awareness of the value of employment for wellbeing and inclusion. Along with a paycheque, work can offer vulnerable people a sense of contribution, meaning and belonging, especially if, like Just Good Compost, it benefits the environment and the local community. The producers felt that there would be a lot of interest, especially in smaller towns and rural villages that often house group homes and other agencies that care for and support people with disabilities.

The filming took place over three days and included “Compost Day”, an annual event where customers come and pick up finished compost for their gardens. A number of our bucket brigade team members were on hand to help people fill their containers and load them into their cars. The segment is scheduled to air in late September. We will be sure to share the link here on the Millstone.
