Dorothy Camelon — obituary

CAMELON, Dorothy Anne 1934–2026

Dorothy passed away at the Montfort Hospital Emergency on February 14th after being transferred there from Marochel Manor where she had resided since June 2019. She lived at a retirement residence the previous nine years.

Dorothy was the second youngest of eight children born to David and Luella Camelon (deceased) of Carleton Place. She is survived by Iva (Del Borchert, deceased) San Diego, CA; Mervyn (Helen), Orleans; and predeceased by sisters Mary Grace, Ottawa; Muriel (Wilmer Johnson), Syracuse, NY; brothers Stirling (Isabelle), Kelowna, BC; Allan Mac (Patricia), Carleton Place; and Glen (Millie), Calgary, AB. She is survived by 11 of her 13 nieces and nephews.

Born in Almonte August 11, 1934, Dorothy grew up in Carleton Place where she attended public and high schools; she was an excellent student. She then attended Taber College and obtained her secretarial diploma. In 1951, the college placed her and a fellow student with secretarial jobs at Osgoode Hall, Toronto. After 3 years, she moved back to Carleton Place and chose a position at RL Crane in Ottawa, where she was employed for 40 years plus a few more with the firm who took over the business.

In 1988, Dorothy sold her home in Carleton Place and purchased one in Orleans. Dorothy was always an avid reader and kept abreast of local, Canadian, and world news and events. She kept in contact with her siblings and travelled to visit with those living outside the Ottawa area. Her sister Muriel was her closest confidant. Dorothy was generous with financial support for extended family members to achieve higher education. She made generous charitable donations annually. She took many of her annual vacations to places across Canada and the United States.

At her request, Dorothy was cremated; her funeral will be held in May at the gravesite with immediate family members invited.
