I’m pretty sure I’ve used this gag before, playing off the catchphrase heard in countless infomercials and telethons.
Anyway: The Millstone isn’t holding a telethon. But you may have read that we just celebrated our 15th anniversary. So this seems a good time to remind readers that we depend on your donations to keep operating.
The Millstone is a federal not-for-profit corporation with a volunteer staff of three, including our treasurer. As an online-only paper, our costs aren’t espcially high, but we do need donations to help cover the costs of hosting our website—with its 15 years’ worth of local news—and sending out the daily email version of the newspaper to our 2,000 subscribers.
That’s why we’re holding another of our occasional non-telethons. There are no operators standing by, but we still hope to see some new donations roll in to help ensure we can keep covering our costs in the future.
Any amount will help: $10 is great, $20 even better. All donations are much appreciated.
You can donate via PayPal or credit card, or with a cheque mailed to the Millstone at 43 Shepherd Street, Almonte.
Note that donations are, and always have been, our only source of income. We don’t charge for subscriptions, ads, Billboard items or obituaries, nor do we receive funding from any level of government. Your donations really do make a difference.
