Union Hall solstice/Indigenous Peoples’ event June 21

On Sunday, June 21, the summer solstice arrives to announce the coming of our warm summer months. For Indigenous people, it is a special time of renewal and connection to the earth. In many communities, it is a time for family gatherings. On Sunday, June 21, we invite families in our community to bring their children to Union Hall. Beginning shortly after 2 p.m., we will have a read-aloud circle featuring the book Thirteen Moons on Turtle’s Back. Children will also make a themed craft to take home. The program will end around 3:30 p.m. with a light snack of berries and cookies.

All are welcome to come out and join us at Union Hall, 1984 Wolf Grove Road, on Sunday, June 21 at 2 p.m. There is no cost to attend and no need to register in advance.

And…Psst, hey kids! It’s also Father’s Day. You can do the inviting! Bring along your Dad, Grandad, Uncle or special neighbour.

Union Hall is fortunate to have the support of Mississippi Mills, the Hub and local businesses. We are grateful to Mill Street Books for their support for this event.

National Indigenous Peoples Day, celebrated annually on June 21, honours the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of the three groups of Indigenous peoples who are recognized in Canada’s Constitution: First Nations, Inuit, and Métis.
