Reconciliation Through Art’s (RTA) Métis Kitchen Party joins Ottawa’s city-wide celebration of music as part of Capital Music Week (CxMW), October 2-10, 2026. The Métis Kitchen Party will be held at the North Lanark Agricultural Hall in Almonte October 2.
“It was an exciting call when CxMW’s Director of events called me to say that they wanted to expand beyond Ottawa and had chosen to come to Almonte because of our event”, said RTA Chair, Tony Belcourt. CxMW is a program of the Ottawa Music Industry Coalition (OMIC).
Styled along the lines of Métis Kitchen Parties that took place in someone’s home in the Métis community, usually after mass or for a family occasion, the Almonte event will feature a home-cooked dinner and dancing to fiddle music; the meal will be a version of the traditional boulettes y bang (meatball stew and bannock) served back in the day.
The evening features demonstrations by the Edmonton Métis Traditional Dancers, tunes from Juno-nominated Amanda Rheaume and the Mamawin’towin Band and foot-stomping fiddle music by Jason Lepine and Lionel Desjarlais of Manitoba.
“Ottawa has an incredible music community, but for too long we’ve been telling our story in pieces,” says OMIC Executive Director Melanie Brulée. “Capital Music Week brings it together. It’s about putting artists in the spotlight, connecting them with new audiences and industry, and inviting people to experience Ottawa through its music. We’re excited to expand into Almonte this year, a highly creative community with a strong music and arts scene. We want to build a region where artists can build careers, audiences can discover something new, and music is part of how we see ourselves and how the rest of the country sees us.”
