EDITOR’S NOTE: We have received this letter from Nancy Dupuis, president of Almonte Community Coordinators.
Resignation letter – September 26, 2017
From the very first time I walked into the Hub, I was wowed! I loved the comradery of all on a Monday morning, something pretty darn special to a single woman with no one other than myself at home. It wouldn’t have mattered if I had been in toys, in housewares, in women’s pyjamas. The fact was I loved sorting, organizing, and helping to provide items for sale for those coming in the door each day at such reasonable prices. And, wow – the money turned back into the community. Unbelievable! I had never seen this kind of thing in action in any other community I’d lived in ever and for 43 years. Asked to join the Board last fall (with no agenda in mind) I became a Director-at-Large. When approached by Eloise this past spring to consider taking on the President’s role, I thought long and hard. I knew at this point it would be a very challenging time ahead. I talked to my Mom about it, I talked to myself a few times too. Without much further thought, I decided I could and should step up to the plate. I felt I could bring some of my past skills into the picture. I have great listening skills, great organizational skills so ….
The past couple of weeks, the bullying has drained me of all energy and my physical well being. For these very reasons, I am submitting my resignation as I am well aware of the dissent within the membership as well as the community. What hurts the most is that no one from this group has ever come forth to speak directly to me. I am hurt beyond words by that.
I am still in total support of the Boards decisions to date. Unfortunately, not all know the full details and the details people think they know are not the complete picture. Please do not lose sight of the Hub’s future but understand the road ahead will never be easy what with these many challenges.
The following quote by R. Lee Sharpe struck me this past weekend; for those of you who truly know me, you know I am philosophical;
Princes and Kings
Isn’t it strange how princes and kings,
And clowns that caper in sawdust rings,
And common people, like you and me,
Are builders for eternity?
Each is given a list of rules;
A shapeless mass; a bag of tools.
And each must Fashion, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block, or a Stepping-Stone.
