Khedr and Nour Jarous, who recently arrived here from Syria, have opened a food booth at the Almonte Farmers’ Market.
Called Jessica’s Syrian Food, named for their 5-year-old daughter, the booth offers a varied menu of chicken, beef and vegetarian dishes, as well as Syrian sweets. The meat dishes feature spices and herbs particular to Syria and Lebanon. There are 10-15 different foods available on any given Saturday.
Khedr Jarous was a chef in Syria specializing in appetizers. He and his colleagues in Homs would serve up to 1,200 people in an evening with extensive menus of appetizers in restaurants that served only these specialty foods.
If you have not had an opportunity to taste this distinctive cuisine do yourself a favour and visit their booth at the Market. They will be there every Saturday through Thanksgiving.
The Jarous couple will also do catering. If you are interested in having them cater for you please call Phyllis Moore in Almonte at 613-256-5375. Phyllis is a member of the support group which helped the Jarous family settle in Almonte.
