Amateur radio emergency service reaches new heights

Thoughts of old days’ barn-raising came to mind last week when staff and volunteers from County of Lanark and Lanark North Leeds Amateur Emergency Service Inc. joined forces to mount emergency antennas on a Perth communications tower. Nearly 30 years have passed since they were first established as a result of the 1998 ice storm emergency. Now much higher at 20m above ground, the added elevation promises wider reach for amateur radio operators to provide communications support across the region in times of emergency.
