An Arctic tern has just this week made the longest ever recorded annual migration from the Farne Islands off the coast of Northumberland in the UK to the Weddell Sea in Antarctica, a distance of 46,000 kilometers, equal to flying twice around the world. According to scientists, the tiny bird does make a stop on the way to refuel.
