Appleton Mill burning

Reader Joan Levesque sent us this picture of the burning of the Appleton Mill.  The date of this fire was July 20, 1950. The damage was estimated at $50,000 (in 1950 dollars so a huge amount today). The caption in the newspaper read,”the blaze of unknown origin was first discovered sweeping though the top story of the building by Mrs. Henry Collie.”
