Tragedy struck a second local family this week when John Rowsom, 76, of Clayton was killed by a motorcyclist while walking with his wife Ena in the Jamaican resort town of Negril on Thursday. Negril is on the Caribbean island’s west coast, about 200 km from the capital Kingston.
The Jamaica Observer newspaper reported that the Rowsoms were walking along Norman Manley Boulevard “when it is alleged that the driver of a Cobra CG 150 motorcycle lost control of the vehicle and collided with him. He sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at hospital. The driver of the motorcycle fled the scene.”
The couple’s son Mark said on Facebook that they were holding hands at the time of accident, and that Ena was not physically injured.
Friends of the Rowsoms say that they had been visiting the island for many years, and that John had worked there at one time. Ena was a featured performer in the recent ‘Trashdance’ musical at Almonte Old Town Hall and is a volunteer at the Hub.
Their home is on Clayton Lake Road.
