Did Dalhousie Lake have a previous name?

EDITOR’S NOTE:

The area in and around Dalhousie Lake shows evidence of indigenous peoples stopping there for possibly thousands of years. I’m interested in early maps of this area, but I don’t know of the lake ever being referred to by a different name on any of them. Was it at some point?

A reader sends this interesting question:

Dear Readers,

I am attempting to establish whether or not Dalhousie Lake had an indigenous name prior to Lord Dalhousie arriving on the scene. Is there anyone out there that can help me ?  Corroboration through a map or document would be very helpful.

Sincerely,
Nic
