Enjoying a taste of Britain

At Mills Community Support’s May 23rd Supper Social

All things British were on the menu and featured in the décor for May 23rd’s “Taste of Britain” supper from Mills Community Support, kicking off our updated series of themed Supper Socials.

A menu featuring British specialities such as roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, and a delicious red, white and blueberried trifle in all the colours of the Union Jack was a huge hit, with comments such as “the best supper we have had” and “the trifle was truly delicious”.

This new take on our regular monthly Supper events came about as a result of a discussion between volunteers and participants at our April supper. The idea of “themed” suppers was suggested and received with much enthusiasm.

Our 3 Supper Social volunteers, Cathy Munro, Linda Mills and Jocelyne Cory, went to great lengths to have the room decorated true to the “all things British” theme. Linda and Jocelyne made centerpieces for the tables, which were covered with floral tablecloths, and the floral bone china teacups really made the room feel very festive and British!  Our thanks go to these dedicated volunteers for making this such a wonderful supper event.

Following supper we had an hour of entertainment by Terri Bennett, who provided some great music for either dancing or singing along to.

Next month, join us for our “Kick off to Summer” supper on June 27th. We will feature picnic basket foods—think BBQ chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, and no doubt a dessert featuring ice cream. To go along with the theme, we encourage people to come dressed in summer outfits, the wilder the better—Hawaiian shirts, capris, sunhats, whatever!

To register for our Supper Socials please call the Home Support office at 256-4700.
