Free Expression and The Public Library: A Conversation

The final evening lecture of the Learning Again in Almonte fall season is coming up on Thursday, November 27.  This crucial discussion will examine the rising tide of book banning and its far-reaching consequences. Christine Row, CEO of the Mississippi Mills Public Library and Sonia Bebbington, CEO of the Ottawa Public Library will offer a frontline perspective on the challenges facing intellectual freedom today and why it matters.

When we control what people can access we:

  •  limit access to diverse perspectives and stifle individual thought and exploration
  •  inhibit the development of the critical thinking skills necessary for developing informed opinions and reasoned arguments
  •  undermine the foundations of a free and democratic society

“But”, you might well ask, “are there not limits?”  Come and join us for a lively, open discussion about what that freedom means and how the notion of limits challenges these seasoned professionals every day. Entry is by donation, but registration is necessary at Tickets Please.
