September 2, 1921 – May 13, 2013
We say goodbye to Gil Goddard, a beautiful and rare human being. A man of consummate kindness, gentle integrity and true honour – a man who quoted poetry, who loved to dance and laugh, who loved the forests and lakes and taught his children to love them, too. Everyone who knew him recognized his signature, life-affirming stride, bright and ready smile and – especially – his sly humour. A WWII veteran (First Canadian Infantry) and Graduate of McGill and Bishop’s Universities, Gil was the second son of the late John and Mabel Goddard, brother to Perry and the late Paul Goddard. He was truly devoted husband to the late Elizabeth Goddard (Macdonald) for over 60 years, gifted father to sons John (Debbie), Allan, Peter and David (Nancy), and daughters Jennifer (Grant), Barbara and Katherine and adoring grandfather to Graeme, Geoffrey and Naomi Goddard, and to Keenan Goddard-Donovan. Dearly loved by his family; loved, respected and admired by so very, very many, Gil will be sadly and sorely missed. A memorial service of celebration for Gilling and Elizabeth Goddard will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, June 15, 2013 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Almonte. A reception will be held at the church following the service, to which all of Gil and Libby’s friends are welcomed. Donations in name and honour of Gilling and Elizabeth may be made, with our thanks, to the Almonte General Hospital Foundation.
