Auditions are taking place on January 10-11 for a new musical by Almonte residents James and Kelly Torck. There must be something in the water here in Mississippi Mills. The vibrant creative scene was one of the things that drew Kelly and James to this area in the first place. They moved to Almonte from Ottawa in 2008 with their young son, and over the years they’ve been blown away by the many inspiring performances that have graced the stage at the Almonte Old Town Hall. Now they’re excited to be adding their own show to the mix, with The Perfect Time.
The cast of characters features four high-school seniors, including two guys who rap (so spread the word to the young adults in your life!), and eight 50ish-year-olds. You can find all the details, including character descriptions, at HummTeam.ca/news. Just email auditions@the20bureau.ca to register for a timeslot. The Perfect Time will hit the stage at the end of May.
The story centres around Kate, her husband John, and their talented and moody daughter, Ruby. Ruby is about to graduate from high school and is determined to go to art college, but her mother insists she study something more practical. John, an English professor who dreams of being a famous writer, is trying to keep the peace. Despite being on the verge of burn-out from her high-pressure corporate job, Kate adds to her plate by deciding to organize her high-school reunion. Things get complicated when John’s glamourous high school sweetheart returns to town unexpectedly and offers to help with the reunion. Meanwhile, Ruby’s best friend is waiting for the right time to follow her heart. Tensions rise as both generations grapple with how and when to be true to themselves. Is there any such thing as ‘the perfect time’?
The show will be directed by Kris Riendeau of Humm Team Productions, with James as musical director. Mark your calendars now for performances on May 22, 23, 24 and May 29, 30, 31. Tickets will be available on ticketsplease.ca.
