Mailbox beaters out on the town – must be February!

vandals1

Life in a small, rural setting like Almonte in February can definitely be boring for many, and more so for our youth on a Saturday night. But this somewhat regular, more than annual frenzy of vandalism is hard to comprehend in this friendly town.

Out on Sunday morning, I noticed our one-year old-mailbox has been ground to smithereens, and the helpless plastic, flag-waving bunny had been ripped right off its little bunny toes. These perpetrators must have been on a bad batch of something. Several of our neighbours have had their mailboxes re-designed  or destroyed. Nothing drive-by about this and hard to pin it on the snow plow guys (well, maybe one), because they’ve been benched.

Perhaps there is nothing about such wanton behaviour that clearly speaks to a failure of parenthood, but I would suspect that there are folks out there who know their family members are out on the town with a six-pack and a baseball bat, whoohoo! Time to get them some help: call the OPP Carleton Place at 613-257-5610. If not, I suspect that soon enough these barn-dwellers will be seeing themselves on social media as motion detector webcams start popping up along the concession!
