Foisy, Peter Joseph
A remarkable man has gone home. Peter Joseph Foisy passed peacefully in his sleep on February 26, 2026, during a brief stay at Almonte General Hospital. Born in Haileybury, Ontario, Peter grew up in Angliers, Quebec, and later moved to North Bay before relocating to Ottawa to begin his career at CBC. He lived a life defined by curiosity, generosity, humor, and kindness.
Peter began his career at CFSF-FM in Sturgeon Falls before joining CBC in Ottawa in 1962. Over more than 30 years, he held a variety of roles, ultimately serving as Senior Technical Supervisor. His colleagues remember him as a true gentleman, a brilliant technician, and a cornerstone of CBC Ottawa. They fondly recall his smile, quick wit, and generosity in sharing knowledge and mentoring others. In retirement, he continued to bring people together, organizing the CBC retirees’ monthly lunches. He was also a proud supporter and volunteer at the annual Puppets Up! Festival in Almonte.
Peter was a devoted father to his son, Kevin Foisy and his wife Violeta, and to his daughter, Nancy Foisy and her husband Barry Emmerson. He was a proud grandfather to Alexa Caldwell-Foisy and Noah Gardiner. He is also survived by his former wife, Marion Foisy.
Generosity and kindness defined Peter’s life outside of work. Whether fixing a broken toy, sewing machine, or vacuum for friends, family, or neighbors, he was happiest when he could help, expecting nothing in return but a simple “thank you.” His door at Clayton Lake was always open. No invitation was necessary. Everyone was welcome.
Peter thoroughly enjoyed the social life at Clayton Lake. He loved sharing a sunset drink with anyone who stopped by for good conversation. A gifted storyteller, he delighted in recounting family history, cherished memories, and his many clever practical jokes. An avid photographer, Peter captured countless moments that became treasured keepsakes for those who knew him. Thursday night Ottawa Valley Heritage Radio bingo gatherings with friends and family were a weekly highlight.
He loved the outdoors and approached every activity with the same energy and care he gave to people. Peter prepared meticulously for the annual moose and deer hunts, traditions he treasured. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting grass, snowblowing, burning brush, and just plain tinkering. Intellectual, a perfectionist, and always learning, Peter had a wit and warmth that left everyone better for knowing him.
His friends and CBC colleagues recall him as the glue that kept people connected, sharing stories and brightening every room with his humor and steady presence. As one colleague wrote, “I will always remember Peter with that smile on his face and a funny comment to follow.”
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Almonte General Hospital for their compassionate care. Donations in Peter’s memory may be made directly to Almonte General Hospital in lieu of flowers.
A visitation will be held on March 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow, at:
C. R. Gamble Funeral Home & Chapel
127 Church Street
Almonte, ON
We invite everyone to honor Peter by sharing a smile or a story, a fitting tribute to a life well lived and a man deeply loved.
