For a few years now the people of St George’s Anglican Church in Clayton have been hosting a free community breakfast on the second Saturday of each month, with the exception of July and August. The full breakfast, including eggs, sausages, pancakes with local maple syrup, hash browns, toast, juice, tea and coffee is offered from 9-11 in the church hall. Donations are accepted, however not expected or required. The number of guests has increased from an average of 25 to 40-55. A lot of visiting takes place!
Due to the generosity of parishioners, local businesses, friends and neighbours and guests, the breakfasts have become not only self-sufficient but also turn a profit. This venture was never meant to be a church fundraiser, but rather part of our mandate for local community outreach.
At year’s end the congregation discusses and decides which local community endeavours to support by donating the breakfast profits to organizations that make Lanark County a wonderful place in which to live and raise a family. This year we had $3000 to distribute and divided the money between: the four schools in Almonte and two in Lanark for their student food programs; the Mississippi Mills Youth Centre; the Almonte Lions Club and the Lanark Highlands Food Pantry for their Christmas Basket programs; Cornerstone Landing; Home Hospice North Lanark; Interval House and Cyndi Porter in Clayton who arranges Christmas meals and gifts for local families.
We look forward to welcoming you to one of our breakfasts in 2026 and continuing to spread goodwill in the local community.
