Star so Bright – A Journey of Faith Presented at St. Paul’s Anglican Church December 6, 2025

Does the world really need another Christmas story? Jackie Bennett thinks so. She’s created Star So Bright: A Journey of Faith, a presentation in narrative and music of the biblical story from a woman’s perspective, something Ms. Bennett feels is missing from the well-known story.

This story is about a fictional woman who travels to Bethlehem during a time when women did not travel on their own. Her journey is filled with doubt, fear, uncertainty, and chauvinism. Yet she finds the inner strength and courage through her faith, to go to Bethlehem and finds, not only a miracle, but her purpose in life.

This project began with a song. Fifteen years ago, singer/songwriter Jackie Bennett was approached and told that her song Star So Bright from her first CD should be made into a story. Ten months later the story was completed along with 10 original pieces of music. The story, although occurring during the birth of Jesus, tells the story of a woman’s journey of faith that is relevant today as we all search for where we belong and how our faith leads us there. This story line will undoubtedly capture your attention, while the enchanting musical score will draw you to a spiritual place.

Jackie Bennett currently resides outside of Orillia, but was born and raised in the Carleton Place area and is the daughter of well-known Cliff Bennett. From her young adult novel When Am I Supposed to Sleep, her play Get What You Need, and Who Needs Drama: A Guide to Teaching Primary and Junior Drama she has proven to be a versatile writer.

Star So Bright has been performed in countless churches over the past 15 years. This will be the first time it has been presented in the Ottawa Valley and will be hosted by St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Almonte on Saturday, December 6, at 7:00 p.m. Women of the congregation will read the story and the music will be provided by the Star So Bright band and members of St. Paul’s.  A free will offering will be accepted.
