Second annual long-standing appreciation events celebrates local businesses
The Municipality of Mississippi Mills celebrated the achievement of local businesses on Wednesday evening at its 2nd Annual Long-standing Business Appreciation Event. Municipal Councillors, staff and members of the Community & Economic Development Committee joined together to highlight the impact that long-standing business owners along with their families have had on Mississippi Mills.
Mississippi Mills is a thriving community made up of long serving business people and family-run businesses. The long-standing business recognition event was created to recognize and thank local businesses for their contribution to the growth and successes of Mississippi Mills.
In an attempt to reach all businesses that have been in operation for more than 25 years, the annual event aims to honour between 20 and 30 businesses each year. During the event, 20 businesses were recognized and included several multi-generational farms that have passed their 100th year anniversary (the full list of recipients can be found below). This year, the evening included introductions and presentations from the Mayor and Councillors to the recipients with “years in business” pins, certificates of recognition, and “years in business” stickers.
If you would like to nominate a businesses for recognition, the Community and Economic Development Committee promotes and seeks nominations in the early fall each year.
The 2017 event was in part sponsored by Valley Heartland, Community Futures Development Corporation with Stacie Lloyd, Regional Economic Development Officer at Valley Heartland, on hand to help honour the recipients. Desserts, coffee and decor for the event were all provided by local businesses. Special thanks to Equator Coffee, Baker Bob’s, North Market, Tea & Cake Catering, Sweet Cheeks Bakery, Prior Engagements, and Acanthus Florist for your contributions to this wonderful evening.
Congratulations to the following deserving businesses for their long-standing contribution to Mississippi Mills!
