Yard of the Week

Rollande and André Martel at 4870 Panmure Road near Blakeney have been working on their 14-acre property for 11 years.

It hosts a vegetable garden, a small apple orchard, cherry and plum trees and everbearing raspberries.  Weeping willows complement the pond that is aerated by a windmill and occupied by statuary of a small boy sitting on a bench.

The garden hosts hummingbirds, bluebirds, cedar waxwings and wild turkeys.  The flower beds are framed by stone borders and contain brilliant fuchsia-coloured sweet william, hostas, potentilla, lupins, roses, rudbeckia, phlox and reflect Rollande’s love of flowers.  The Martel’s preserve water with the use of mulch and rain barrels.

At the front of the house a white swing set and dancing fairies welcome you to their home.
