Yard of the Week – Iya and James Carson

This Yard of the Week is a rural oasis of rock gardens, gravel paths and raised beds among mature pine and spruce trees.

Located at 2952 10th Concession Pakenham, the Carsons have been gardening here for the last six years. The property has an abundance of gravel soil, prompting them to plant their vegetables in raised beds. They will harvest around 300 tomatoes growing in the raised beds and/or containers.

Other edibles include squash, peppers, cantaloupe and even pumpkins. There are lots of gravel paths leading from one flower bed to another. The beds include yucca, lilies, irises, poppies and many other perennials.

There is a pergola planted with hops and a wonderful large rock garden near the front of the property which is planted with perennials and annuals for a colourful show all season long.
