To the editor: I’m concerned that UltraMar is proceeding with their new site while not returning calls or emails regarding the status of their old site. We don’t know what the types of contamination are or what level of concern there might be. There have been spill reports in the past with no indication of whether there has been off site migration. Currently there is just an empty space on our Mill St. and no indication of whether and when it will be offered for public use (parking) or private sale. It had a for sale sign on it when it was first decommissioned which was later taken down. It worries me that it may be cheaper and easier for a large corporation to just pay the taxes and ignore the negative impact it is having on our main street for a very long time. How do we get their attention and cooperation? They will soon benefit from our local economy with their new site while hurting our fledgling downtown economic recovery with their old site.
