Last night at the Almonte & District Community Centre, the NHL Alumni played against the Law Enforcement All-Stars as part of the NHL Alumni Benefit Tour.
Although the NHL Alumni won by a score of 12 to 9, the real winners were the Special Olympics Ontario athletes who benefit from the proceeds of these games through the funds raised last night and other funding generated by the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
Hockey fans young and old enjoyed an entertaining game, including the one between our junior hockey players, and the skills competition. The NHL Alumni players provided some great advice to our younger players during the pre-game activities and then displayed their smooth puck handling and fine skating skills during the game, like an on-ice version of the Harlem Globetrotters.
Although there were many familiar names, the one that received by far the most attention, and was the hardest working, was Walter Gretzky, who signed autographs from early pre-game until the arena closed.
