Linda Standing – Joyful Folk at the Almonte Library Corridor Gallery March 3 – April 18

Linda Standing, a self-taught folk artist, has captured the hearts of many with her charming and naive style of painting reminiscent of the renowned artists Maud Lewis and Grandma Moses.

Linda finds inspiration from the world around her, particularly in the beauty of nature, the simplicity of rural life, and an Amish family history. Her love for animals shines through in her paintings where she often portrays them as whimsical and endearing characters, and her work celebrates the bond between humans and animals depicting scenes of farm animals grazing in lush pastures, cats lounging in sunlit window sills, or dogs joyfully playing in the countryside.

Despite the lack of formal training, Linda’s talent is undeniable. Her paintings are filled with vibrant colours, intricate details, and a sense of warmth and nostalgia that resonates with viewers. Through her art Linda invites us to slow down and appreciate the beauty of the world around us reminding us of the simple joys that bring meaning to our lives.
Linda’s work is a testament to the timeless appeal of folk art and the enduring legacy of self-taught artists. Her canvases are often recycled materials such as old kitchen cupboard doors, tabletops, and remnants of wood.

Her works have been featured in numerous exhibitions and can be found in collections in the USA, Europe, and Australia.

View her paintings at the Corridor Gallery in the Almonte Library from March 3rd to April 18th . They can also be found at A Bunch of Whimsy, 142 Bridge St. in Carleton Place.
