Kathleen Cowan — obituary

Cowan, Kathleen Bernice

September 12, 1955 – May 10, 2025

With heavy hearts and immeasurable love, we announce the passing of Kathleen Bernice Cowan, who left us  on May 10, 2025, at the age of 69. Just four months shy of her 70th birthday, Kathy’s absence leaves a space in our lives that can never be filled.

Kathy was the soul of our family — a woman of deep love, unshakable strength, and quiet grace. She was a devoted and loving mother to her two beautiful children, Brent (Heather) and Andrea (Jon), who were the heart of her world. Her pride and joy extended to her granddaughter Lillian (“Lilicans”), who brought endless light into her life. With her huge heart, she also held a cherished place for Riley and Jameson — grandchildren both by bond and by love. She will be deeply missed and has left a lasting void in the life of her beloved Lin Lin.

Born to James and Inez Folkard, Kathy grew up surrounded by the love of a large family. She is survived by her siblings John (Beverly) , Lois , Leona (Mike), Susan, Sandra (Butch) twin brother Kenny ( Gail) and Stephen. She was predeceased by her parents and sister Carol and brother Donald. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews who will forever remember her as Aunt Kathy — or fondly as Aunt Cack.

Kathy’s life was one marked by compassion, resilience, fight, and determination — with a deep loyalty to those she held dear. She had a gift for making people feel safe, understood, and loved — always there with a comforting word, a warm embrace, or a thoughtful gesture.

If so desired, a donation in memory of Kathy may be made to the Trillium Gift of Life.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date to honour Kathy’s memory in the quiet, meaningful way she would have wanted.

She was everything in our world. Her love will live on in our hearts and in the countless lives she touched.
