Well, it is close to one month until the 166th Almonte Fair (September 11-13, 2026). The Almonte Fair has been an annual fixture in our community since 1858 (less 2 pandemic years). It is an iconic feature of our Town and similar to hundreds of others in Ontario (over 230 to be precise) as well as thousands more around North America (and much of the world). The Fair is the high point of the year for the North Lanark Agricultural Society (NLAS), but there are numerous other events throughout the year, hosted by the NLAS at the Almonte Fairgrounds. These include BusFusion, our own Spring Dance, the Gujarati Kite Festival, North Lanark Highland Games and numerous weddings and other celebrations.
The Almonte Fairgrounds are located right on the beautiful Mississippi River in Almonte. While they are privately owned by the NLAS, they are generally open to the public for passive recreation, dog walking, boating, and swimming. The Municipality of Mississippi Mills operates the beach, and they assist with lawn maintenance of the grounds.
The maintenance and upkeep of the property is a huge responsibility and is undertaken by a team of volunteers. The NLAS has no employees and is self-funded with some grant money from the Town for the annual Fair and occasionally other organizations. During August, we host “Car Toot Bingo” as a fundraiser for the NLAS and also a great social time for the community. It is held very Wednesday evening at the Fairgrounds, starting at 7 pm (Gates open at 5:30 pm). This is also an important fundraiser for the Society. Back to the Fair … in recent months, the price of everything seems to be increasing. Well, the NLAS Board is excited to confirm that the prices for this year’s Fair have not changed! A full access pass which includes all entertainment, midway rides (unlimited) and shows is still only $40 for the day. If you just wish to attend the fair and enjoy the free shows (from beef cattle to magic and more), it is only $20 per day. In this day and age, it is hard to find such a deal. Do not forget that all the grandstand entertainment, pony rides and antique tractor rides are also free with either pass! This year, we also have a new show called “dancing tractors” as well as old favourites like kid’s entertainers “Team T&J”.
As noted, the beautiful Agricultural Hall is available for rent by individuals and organizations. This is another source of revenue to keep the NLAS alive. If you are interested in renting, please email bookings@almontefair.ca.
