McSkimmings, Judith Ann (1942-2026)
After a brief illness, Judie passed away on September 23, 2026 at Fairview Manor in Almonte, Ontario. She was 83.
Judie is predeceased by her father, John Albert McSkimmings, her mother, Mollie Allery McSkimmings, her elder daughter, Robyn Kuhns Fancy, and her younger daughter, Elizabeth (Libby) Kuhns Morley.
Judie is survived by her granddaughter Alyson Fancy, her grandsons Sean Morley, Kyle Morley, Bryan Fancy, her step-daughters Melanie Berljawsky, Laura Berljawsky, her husband Alexander Berljawsky, her close friends Patricia Ward and Danielle Morgan and cousins Susan Heim in Winnipeg and David Allery in Calgary.
Judie was born on Boxing Day 1942 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She did not meet her father until she was three years old, as that is when he returned home from military service during World War Two. Judie moved to Ottawa at the age of 20, and married Jack Kuhns, with whom she had two daughters, Robyn (1967-2013) and Elizabeth (Libby) (1971-2010).
In 1986, Judie teamed up with Alex Berljawsky as a life partner. They lived together in Ottawa until 2008, when both retired and moved to the small town of Almonte, Ontario. Judie braved the rigors of myasthenia gravis all her adult life, and in 2021 was diagnosed with mixed dementia. Judie spent her final years under the superb long term care at Fairview Manor in Almonte.
